Development Squad for Jumps

 23 February 2015

Thanks to everyone who expressed interest in development squads for jumps and throws.

The jumps squad will provisionally start on Wednesday 11th March, with a session every week from 7.00 PM to 9.00 PM. Initially the session will alternate on a weekly basis between high jump and long jump.

The squad is for athletes in the U15 and above age groups (born on or before 31/08/2002) who want to specialise in jumps event.

There will be capacity in the squad for a maximum of 8 athletes, with joining criteria including:
  • Commit to training regularly with attendance at all squad sessions within reason. Athletes should already have a similar training attendance record before joining the squad.
  • Represent the club regularly in both team competitions and individual competitions as agreed with your coach.
  • Give 100% effort at all times, and co-operate fully, respecting all requests and decisions made by the coaches and officials.
  • Athletes should have attained an entry standard at least once in the previous 12 months.
The squads will be reviewed regularly on the above basis.

The development squads will be led by coaches who specialises in that discipline.

The jumps squad will be led by Brian Burgess, one of Scotland's top jumps coaches, and a former high jump athlete who progressed to win a bronze medal for Scotland in the Edmonton 1978 Commonwealth Games.

Athletes who are wanting to join the squad should confirm this with Alistair as soon as possible. Please also confirm whether you are interested in high jump, long jump or both!
